Remember the story of Hachiko, the loyal dog who waited at a train station every day for his deceased owner to return? A similar story unfolded recently at a small restaurant, but with one heartbreaking difference – this dog wasn’t waiting for someone who had passed away, but for an owner who had abandoned him.
Outside a local restaurant, a dog appeared one day and simply wouldn’t leave. He sat at the entrance, checking the face of every customer who walked through the door. The locals noticed his unusual behavior.

“He cries a lot,” told the restaurant owner. “He just sits there and doesn’t eat much.”
Rain or shine, the dog remained in his spot, refusing to come inside even during bad weather. His eyes were constantly searching for someone.
When a veterinarian examined the dog, the truth came to light. Not only was the dog emotionally distressed, but he was also suffering from late-stage heartworm disease – a condition that could be fatal if left untreated.
And it becomes clear that the dog’s owner possibly abandoned it because of his illness, because not every can afford the treatment for animal diseases. So, pet owners just give up their pets. Harsh reality!
The dog needed to stay in the hospital for at least six months. The restaurant owner and locals who had been caring for him said their goodbyes, wishing they had known sooner about his condition.
Just a month into his treatment, there came good news for this pup.
A couple who had recently lost their own dog about two months ago saw a broadcast about this loyal canine and decided to open their hearts and home to him.
His wife was drawn to the abandoned dog’s eyes, which reminded her of Mong.
When they visited the hospital, they were amazed by the dog’s transformation. His tear stains were gone, and he looked much healthier and happier. The restaurant owner also came to see him one last time and noticed the positive change.
The couple named their new family member “Mideum,” which means “Faith” – a perfect name for a dog who had kept his promise to wait faithfully, even when his owner had broken their promise to return.
In his new home, Mideum quickly bonded with his adoptive parents. He showered them with affection as if understanding that these were the people who would truly care for him until the end.
“Since you met mom, trust your mom, and let’s live happily, right?” his new mom said as Mideum gave her gentle kisses.
While his first owner never came back for him, Mideum found a family who would never leave him behind. After enduring abandonment, illness, and countless days of waiting, this real-life Hachiko finally found the happy ending he deserved.
As his new family puts it: “Please remember Mideum not as a crying dog, but as a smiling angel.”
