A dog fell into the river, barely clinging to life as the current pulled it further away. After several attempts to save, the owner almost gave up. But just when it seemed like all was lost, a group of quick-thinking rescuers sprang into action.

EMS and River Rescue received a call on March 10 that a dog fell into the Ohio River behind 1600 West Carson Street.
The dog was with his owner when he somehow slipped and fell into the river near some tied-up barges. The owner left no stone unturned to save his dog but couldn’t reach him.

People nearby also tried to help, but the river bank was too high, and no one could get to the dog.
Minutes must feel like hours when you watch an innocent animal struggling like that, unable to reach him.
Soon, the River Rescue team arrived at the location, assessed the situation, and made a plan. They sailed the boat carefully in the middle of the barges to get near the drowning dog.
A brave paramedic rescue diver jumped into the water. The onlookers held their breath as the diver navigated the current.

After a few minutes, the diver swam back with the dog to the vessel. The poor dog was soaking wet and shaking from the cold.
The team quickly checked for other injuries but found none.

According to the Pittsburg Public Safetly Department, after a reunification at the North Shore, the dog was handed over to his owner who was, of course, beyond overjoyed to see his pup!
